nirvana0001 is right. The 'p' series are Workstations. The diference between a standard PC and a workstation is as follows :
The workstation has sufficient performance characteristics that render the machine to be "certified" to perform certain applications that have an "output". To explain further : a standard PC has to perform tasks which have limited outputs with dynamic limited nature : browsing, mail, word processing etc. On the counter side : a workstation that has a graphics oriented mission has to perform high-end calculations to analyze the mechanical stresses in an aircraft's landing gear during landing for example. This is a long process and takes a lot of processing power and needs an advanced graphices adapter etc. Another workstation can have a data-base analysis mission, which entails high-end disk/cache performance, to run through an exhaustive calculation through a complex database to issue a single page report in the end.
This list of examples is long : weather analysis, geological and seismic analysis, thermal modeling etc.
One final example : the T42p is certified by "DASSAULT" ( manufacturer of the french MIRAGE fighters, hope the spelling is right !) as a standard CATIA graphics workstation. CATIA is a specialized graphics package for 3D modeling and that analyzes stresses in mechanical systems as well.
Hope that I have not made things more confusing. I usually do. Sorry.
