Just got t40 with cisco wireless. IP coinflict error?
1st off my apologies if I am in the wrong forum. I just got last night a 237475U t40 tp.
this is my problem:
I have DSL and I connect my main computer (tower) through ethernet.
I have a hub and two ethernet lines coming out of it one for the tower and one for the T40.
I have used this configuration before and never had problems.
When thee tp was uploading all the stuff on the first boot it recognized a wireless conection from some nearby neighbor and connected to the internet.
I used that connection last night and did not bother to hook up my ethernet cable.
This morning I plug the cable in and both computers are giving me an IP conflict error.
this is what I have done so far:
I disabled the wireless completely and turned off the radio.
I ran the set up network wizard on both computers.
I still get the ip error message.
What do I have to do to rid of the problem?
thanks in advance

This can be the result of two computers using the same IP address. Check the other computers on your network to see what IP addresses they are using. This can happen if you set your IP addresses manually on one or more computers. Usually (in my experience) wired (ethernet) connections take the lowest number IP addresses first, and if a wireless connection configured manually chooses one of the lowest IP addresses, you can have an IP address conflict when a wired connection comes online.
DKB
I am using a hub. Right now I have been able to aviod the ip conflict issues however, i am having problems connecting them both to the internet or share files.
the only way I got it to somewhat work is by using an extra ethernet card in my computer.
this is the set up:
data:
computer-laptop
internet
dsl-computerxlaptop
wireless
neighbours wireless connection-laptop
so basically, I can upload files from the main system to the TP through the ethernet but I cannot connect the laptop to my DSL. I have to connect it using the wireless. So everything works but not how it's supposed to.
Any ideas?
