T43p on eBay for 20$

#1 Post by Thinkpad4by3 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 9:08 am

I'm not sure if I'm going to get this but I found a T43p in rough condition but a good 15" UXGA Flexview for $20.

Is that a good deal for one?

If it is indeed a Flexview UXGA and its quality is good, then yes, it's a bargain.

I am afraid if that is a scam or something because $20 for UXGA display itself is a very solid deal

No, its not, its someone who doesn't know the actual value. There is a picture of it with XP booting with normal colors. The person labeled it by the model number, not T43p.

If the buyer has a 99-100% rating and posts clear pics, it is probably unlikely to be a scam. Could just be a guy who wants to get rid of a bunch of stuff without the patience to sell higher. Anyway, $20 isn't much money lost even if it doesn't happen to come perfect.

T43p $20 Flexview eBay Link

#9 Post by Thinkpad4by3 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 4:39 pm

I was thinking about it and I just don't want another laptop right now so I'm putting this up for someone else to have this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ibm-thinkpad-26 ... 2425994327

Just for future reference, I just want to know if you think it is a scam or a bargain.

Also: I don't know or have any connection to this seller.

Did you notice that shipping was another $16, and no HDD was included, and the battery didn't work, and it didn't come with a charger? Not such a good deal IMO. Would have been an okay deal if it had been a T60p.

Besides the the condition being relatively unknown it still is a single core machine. The Achilles Heal. IMO

I have a T43p in the collection, the 1600x1200 screen is nice. Don't think anybody wanted this for a main machine, there are better deals for $36 around.

Well that doesn't hold true in Canada. For $40 you can only get something like base spec small form OptiPlex 755 or something. If you add up the cost of a monitor, upgrades, etc. you get the point

A good deal for $36. Screen shows signs of age but is in good condition except for a few small spots. Keyboard is NMB and works well (shiny keys); 2GB memory; has some minor scuffs but cosmetically is in good condition. Only serious defect is that the fan is very noisy and needs replacing.

Not if the only program you use that causes a measurable delay is not multithreaded. For compiling TeX documents, "compilation times scale nearly linearly with the CPU clock". For example, compiling a 500 page document on a T43p (XP SSD 2.26GHz) takes 19 seconds and 14 seconds on a T450s (Win 7, SSD, i5 5300U, 2.3-2.9GHz). Using a 48-core AMD server with 32 GB of RAM and ultra-fast SCSI disks doesn't help.
https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions ... erformance

Comparison: T43p (2005) vs T560 (2016).
Screen: T43p has a bigger taller screen (108 sq in vs 104 sq in; 9 in vs 7.6in).
Keyboard: T43p has classic 7 row keyboard; T560 has a 6 row keyboard.
Weight: T43p is 5 lb 7 oz (without DVD); T560 is 5 lb (no DVD).

For writing mathematics documents, the T43p is the clear winner.

How is the screen? Is it yellowed or pinked other than the dots you mentioned?
Well T43p is a great transitioning laptop. It works with Windows NT 4.0 - Windows 10 Creators Update. I mainly use it for the comfortness of its keyboard, screen, build quality, speakers etc. My A30p is even better for those, thus I kept it fully upgraded as well. But T43p comes more handy in terms of more modern stuff.
