T20 not stalling and not booting up

#1 Post by Jamieinnh » Fri Jun 17, 2005 8:43 pm

I have a friend that has a T20 that for a while now has been locking up on him. Now it has gotten to a point where he can't even get to the log in screen in Windows. It won't boot up to a Dos disk, and won't boot in safe mode.

A friend has told him that the inverter board is gone in it. Can anyone give me an experience with these sort of problems, and if it might be the inverter board? If it is, is is hard to replace? Can a Non-IBM person replace it?

Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this problem.

The most common problem with T20, T21 and some T22??? TPs is probably caused by bad capacitors??? in the start circuit. The symptom is when you hit the start button 2 lights flash and then nothing.

You can try replacing the CMOS battery if that doesn't fix the problem then you probably need to have the system board replaced. A lot of people want to charge more than the $300-$500 the T20 is worth on today's market.

I was lucky to find a brand new factory sealed system board for my T20 on eBay for $69.00 USD. I put it in a few weeks ago and my T20 is running better than new (it's an updated board over the original version part).

The installation was simple but I grew up in electronics and I've built a lot of PCs. You can D/L a Hardware Maintenance Manual from the IBM/Lenovo web site.
