Recovery disks for my T42 (2373)

#1 Post by Adequz » Sun Jun 04, 2017 4:09 pm

Hello,

Recently snagged a nice T42 for 20 euro, its in really good condition too, but missing its OS. For nostalgic reasons i would like to reinstall Windows XP on it, but im missing the recovery disks (i tried using the xp disks of a T61 wich i found online, but no success). Its the ATI model, has anyone some .ISO's laying around?

I have a set. I can host .ISO files if you would like.

@theterminator93 kindly sent me a set of ISO files (recovery disks) for T42, but I have a problem .. can't get them to work. :(( Booting off the CD-ROM drive, nothing happens, it just blinks few times and boots from HDD after some time.. Tried to exclude HDD from boot devices and I get errors (cable connection) but Windows can access the CD-ROM drive without any hassle. Any tips please how to load the original system from recovery CD's please? Thank you.

If you just copied the ISO's onto a CD, they won't work.
You need a program like (free) Imgburn http://imgburn.com/ to burn them onto a CD.

I'd like a copy of these ISO's if possible as well. I just picked up a T42 the other day and would like to recover it to factory settings.

Hey there

I've recently bought a T42 and could do with some help sourcing recovery discs. I found a set on the archive, however after following the instructions. I'm stuck at "Insert product recovery Disc 1" It refused to read the discs I wrote, even through I did was the instructions said to do.

It seems from your comment
https://archive.org/details/Disc2of7Jan ... UPN24R7684
that you merely copied the .isos onto a disc, as opposed to burning them onto a disk

T43 recovery discs may also work for ye:

Just saw this reply, to clarify, I did burn them to a CD and they didn't work. Not idea how the other person got them working. I resorted to installing XP and then installing the drivers manually.

I'd say do a clean install from a genuine Windows XP (x86-32bit) CD (preferably SP3), and then install the drivers manually. The drivers should be still accessible on official Lenovo EOL site:
https://download.lenovo.com/eol/

I might have a genuine Win XP 32bit SP3 installation CD image (.iso) available in my archive, if sb's interested :) I tend to keep saving old files for the future, just in case.

I have saved the archive.org set as well, and several have requested it from me in an attempt to restore their machines - all have said that set does not work. I have a different set of ISOs for the T41 that I made from a partially damaged stack of CDs I found at a client site a number of years ago, that do work - aside from one archive on one of the discs that fails to read. Ignoring the read errors during the restore process just omits that package (not sure what's in it, I never noticed anything missing in the restore so it was probably junk or never would have installed anyway due to HW config) and restore completes normally.
