Latest BIOS for T4x Series

#1 Post by karotlopj » Mon Jun 12, 2017 1:32 am

What's the latest BIOS for the T4x Series, and is it the same BIOS across the series?

T43 sports a different BIOS than the rest of T4x series, and there are two different versions for ATi and Intel-based models. The last one is 1.29

For all the previous models, I'm fairly certain that the last one is 3.23

I have 3.21 (from 06/02/2006) on my T42. How do I upgrade?

T40, T41, T42 series: Both ATI and INTEL have as their latest versions:
EC: V3.04
BIOS: V3.23

T43/T43p: Both ATI and INTEL have as their latest versions:
EC: V1.06
BIOS: V1.29

You need to install EC first, then BIOS.

There were BIOS versions around with Slic2.1 and 1802/2010 errors removed, but they seem to have gone the way of the dodo.
Maybe a deep Google search?

Never heard of EC. What is it and where do I find which level of EC I'm using?

Embedded Control. In charge of several things, including fan operation.

When you get to BIOS page (by pressing F1 on boot) you'll see the Embedded Controller version listed there.

I can't say I've ever taken any notice... but it is 3.04.

On my T41 BIOS is 3.13 (1RETDHWW) 2004-10-29, so I guess an update wouldn't do any harm. You can get it here along with the ECR mentioned earlier:-

Just tried to update BIOS and failed because I don't have a fully charged battery... Mine only holds minimal charge, maybe I should get a replacement. Is there an utility which will show the state of a battery and whether it is capable of getting fully charged?

Follow the Drivers link at the top of this page and select the Category "Power Management" and OS for your T4x model.

Newer W7 here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101347

The T41 isn't listed as supported but I downloaded it anyway... Looks like I need to replace my battery before I can update the BIOS.

The first Thinkpad with W7 was a T400/T500 but W7 has been tested to run on many older ones, down to T30 IIRC.

As for batteries, read this: viewtopic.php?t=112647

FYI, Windows 7 works on things as old as 570E and the first really usable ThinkPad to work with Windows 7 is maxed out T23 (A30/p is better for driver support)
Dell Lat CP MMX-233 64mb 40gb W2k
600 PII-266 416mb 40gb WXP
T23 PIII 1.13ghz 1gb W7
Precision M4300 X9000 8gb 160gb WUXGA Ultrasharp fp W10
T530i 15.6" i7 16gb fp W10
UXGA:
A30p PIII 1.2 1gb W7 (IDTech)
T43p 2.26 2gb fp W10 (Sharp)
Lat C840 P4-2.5 2gb 60gb W7 (Ultrasharp)
