Getting a T43 working in Windows 98

#1 Post by jamesfx2 » Sun Sep 10, 2017 5:11 pm

I've tried to get the T43 working in Windows 98 SE and it hasn't been a smooth ride.

- Network/Wifi not working
- Sound card not working
- No specific drivers for the motherboard (915gm/ICH6)

I was only able to get the X300 graphics card and display working completely properly. Lots of other attempts just end up with the laptop blue screening on boot.

Have any of you been more successful? There's scattered threads on the boards but some of them are from years ago when manufacturers had their own drivers.

The T43 is a square box and Windows 98 is a round hole. If IBM didn't provide drivers for this union then you are pushing s**t up hill.

T43 was never supported for Windows 98, support goes back to Windows 2000 which was NT based. For Windows 98 support you'd need a T42.

While it looks virtually identical externally the T43 with it's 900 series chipset was a big step change over the T40-T42. Intel didn't offer chipset drivers for the DOS based Windows 9x to my knowledge.
