T20 and DVD+RW

#1 Post by uhameed » Tue Jun 21, 2005 2:23 am

Hi I have a T20, model number 2647-55U, PIII 550, 20GB HDD, 128MB RAM. I have a DVD drive a Toshiba SD-C2302, and I can read a regular DVD-ROM and DVD video. But I can't read a DVD+RW that I made on my DVD burner. I've upgraded BIOS to the latest firmware upgrade, but it still won't read the DVD+RW. I don't have a floppy and although I did find an update for the DVD drive I coudn't put it on a CD, because it requires 2 floppies and I'd have to write 2 CDs which should be bootable and then I could update it. Before I jump into doing this, I am asking, does anyone else have a similar problem? I am hoping there is an easier way (other than purchasing new DVD drive or a laptop). I think this drive might read DVD-RW and DVD+RWs are not readable.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the earlier drives only read DVD-R not DVD+R - i thought that the firmware update resolved this but i don't use +R media so couldn't confirm

BTW, the DVD drive that came in my T22 would read DVD-Rs but not DVD-RWs. I can't remember the brand of the drive now. Also, some older settop DVD players will read DVD-R but only some brands of DVD-RW, so it might not have been an absolute no-DVD-RW in may case, just a media issue.

usually Panasonic/Matshita drives are this way...and that's what tends to come in these Thinkpads.
