T43p refresh rate

#1 Post by Kel Ghu » Tue Jun 21, 2005 11:12 am

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a program that can measure the screen refresh rate? Because my 14"1 FlexView screen ghosts a bit and the drivers give me contradictional informations. ATI control panel tells me the screen max refresh rate is 50Hz and Windows tells me that it is 60Hz.
Thank you!

Ghosting is caused by slow response time of the LCD panel which is much slower than display card's refresh rate.

It's actually an apples to oranges comparison. Refresh rate is measured in Hz while response time is measured in ms. One is a measure of frequenct over time (Hz) while the other is simply a period of time (ms). I believe response time is the time it takes for a panel to go from displaying all grey pixels to all black and vice versa, whereas refresh rate is the number of times the screen is redrawn over a certain period of time.

Yeah, you are right.

It's not comparing apples to oranges, because Hz are cycle/second so response time = 1/Hz, so 50Hz equals to a time between 2 refresh of 20ms, and 60hz equals to 16.6ms. So the LCD panel has 20ms or 16.6ms to change its pixels (its measured for a grey to grey change). So if the panel doesnt change its pixels color intime before the next refresh comes, it will have a color in between and that creates ghosting.

Yeah, no flexview for 14"1. I wanted to buy a 15" T43p, but finally bought the 14"1 T43p (had it for 2700CHF, thats about 2100$). I keep thinking I have flexview :P
