T43 battery issue
T43 battery issue
Hello everyone,
I hadn't used a battery in my T43 for years since the last one died. I just use the A/C charger. Well, I purchased a new battery and received it today. It charges like normal and is recognized as a good, charging battery in the IBM Power Manager Program. The problem is that it will not turn on unless the A/C plug is in. This has me stumped. I did a search in this forum but couldn't find anyone else that had this "exact" issue.
Thanks is advance for your help!
Mike

Re: T43 battery issue
Chinese knock-off probably.
Some work, some don't.
Most of 'em don't last long either.
OTOH, the charging circuit of your T43 might be faulty.
Have you got another T4x or R5x to try it in?

Re: T43 battery issue
I don't have another thinkpad to try it in. I don't think it's the battery. The info in the IBM power meter says fully charged at 100% and also says that this Sanyo battery is IBM compatible. Status us good and battery icon on LCD is fully green. This seems odd.

Re: T43 battery issue
Well I got AGPTEK branded T4x 9 cell battery 2 years ago and after my *DAILY* usage (going to lecture, library, Starbucks, etc.) it holds around 60% of charge, though the casing is superglued shut now. My cell replacement technique isn't mature enough to do one that doesn't have the risks of exploding and/or destroying my precious T43p motherboard. And even brand new IBM cells' lifespan decreases fast over time after sitting on the shelf for a decade.

Re: T43 battery issue
Can't agree with that. I have quite a number of '03 batteries that hold 80%+ charge, with Panasonic 9-cell being a top cherry of that pie (92% charge, 872 cycles, production date of 2005). Starting with T400 era the batteries' quality fell drastically.
I guess the battery works just fine when you UNPLUG the AC adapter after boot?mjm4jc wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 7:16 pmI hadn't used a battery in my T43 for years since the last one died. Re: T43 battery issue
I have bought brand new UltraBay 2000 battery on eBay with zero cycles to start with. It started out holding a good amount of charge, but after less than 10 times of complete discharge (thank you IBM for forcing the battery to 0% before switching to main battery) and 50 cycles, now it holds around 40% of the charge and barely lasts half an hour on my A30p even with the absolute minimum brightness and less than 25% of CPU usage throughout

Re: T43 battery issue
Bay batteries are Li-Poly I suppose.
Mine holds 100% charge anyway (SONY, T60), 4 years of use, ~70 cycles.
