DVD Multiburner w/ Dual Layer Capabilities Release?
Does anyone know when IBM plans on releasing such a drive? The current drive is a) slow and b) incapable of burning dual layer disks...

Yep, 6500A is dual layer and 8X to boot, though it won't burn but at 6X in my T30. Buy it for about $115 after shipping and tax (if they have a store in your state you have to pay your state's sales tax...still a great deal) from www.newegg.com
Edit: This is not a 9.5mm drive but a 12mm drive...will fit the T2x and T3x series but not the T4x which requires a 9.5mm drive, limiting your choices to the crappy Matshita/Panasonic drives.

No help. Getting the T43. I think I'll get the DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo and upgrade w/ the EPP later...MadeInJapan wrote:Yep, 6500A is dual layer and 8X to boot, though it won't burn but at 6X in my T30. Probably a good idea. You really won't need a need for a lot of DVD burning on a laptop. Have had my multiburner for awhile and maybe I've burned 2 DVD's. If I need to burn one, I do it on my desktop.

I have a Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-832S in my T42.sugo wrote:I believe M a t s u s h i t a already has a 9.5 mm dvd write UJ-832b that can do dual layer. It will be just a matter of time before T adopts it.
The burning max speed according to the seller is:
CD/CD-RW 24/16
DVD-R/RW 4/2.4
DVD+R/RW 4/2.4
DVD RAM 3
I have tested CD, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R and it's capable to burn at the max speed over.
The DVD-RW and DVD-RAM I havn't tested yet.
