i got now 512M , and one free slot.

seen here posts about dual channel supported or not ....
Do u need identical of two 512 to get advantage of this if it's supported ?

my dilemma now is if to get 1G or 512M. money obviously is an issue as well.

and yeah , where is the best place to get them ?

thanks Danny

I bought an extra 1GB stick from Newegg. I did the research and the benefit of dual-channel operation was minimal at best, especially on systems with standalone graphics like x300 or v3200. As a software developer I'll benefit more from the extra .5 GB than I will dual-channel.

Depending on what you are doing with your laptop another 512mb ram could/would help speed things up some. If you are doing alot of intensive stuff an extra gb would help some.

i dont have a thinkpad (but that will change in the next two months) but ive been thinking about getting a memory upgrade for my comp, here are my thoughs:

512mb would probobly work ok (just ok, 512mb used to be great, but now its just ok for systems) so you think you should just get another stick of 512mb for 40-50$:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... t=Property

but in the thinkpad, doesnt it only have 1 free slot of ram for you to play with? in that case id say go with a 1 gb stick for 100-110$:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... t=Property

(these prices are for pc2700 ram, which im pretty sure the thinkpads use.)

id say go for the gig, i know i will for my x41 tab, or with the t43.

edit: yes you need two identical sticks of ram for dual channel. unless you plan on spending 150$ on 512mb ram from renovo, go for the gig elsewhere.

The T43 uses 200 pin DDR2, PC2-4200 Sodimm. They are a little more expensive at this time. Newegg has the Kingston 1GB ValueRAM for $112 + $4 s/h. Crucial has the 1GB for about $144.

The T41 and T42 use pc2700.

I'd probably go with the $63.01 stick http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820144182

I just got the extra 512MB SODIMM for my T43 today from IBM and it uses the exact same chips as on the $63.01 Kingston stick (ELPIDA - Japan).

At least for me, knowing you've got the same brand chips that IBM supports for the T43 would be worth a couple more cents.

Oh, btw, the ram I got from IBM had a manufacture date on the SODIMM of 6/16/05 :) Pretty cool if ya ask me! It was made two days before I ordered it :)
