T43 LCD panel failure

My beloved T43's LCD panel developed a fault this afternoon:(

Model 2668-92G, 15" Flexview 1400x1050. External monitor output works just fine, laptop itself works just fine everything except the LCD panel, some ghastly black bars interspaced with random coloured lines on the bottom three inches of the screen.

Sorted with IBM, under warranty, will be dropping it off at the local DHL courier depot tomorrow. Average 8 to 10 working days turnaround.

Wondered if this turnaround was normal for IBM and how often do LCD panels fail? No dropping incidents or such like, spends it life when not used in a ZeroShock sleeve. Today, it was left on the desk, came back from lunch, and there it was. Urgh.

You should be able to call IBM and they will send you a box the next day that will get your TP back to service. As it was near new it simply had a MFG defect. I have never had to return any of my ThinkPads but I hear they are very fast to repair and return.

Yes, spoke with them, part of their email confirmation of instructions on returning the T43 reads "i think we need to replace the LCD panel" and it's fairly new, got it back on 21 March earlier this year so we'll see if IBM will honour the warranty or not.

In the past, IBM has been excellent on things like this. Let us all know how the new owners of ThinkPads do.

I had similar 'effect' on my 14" 1400x1050 t43 screen, when coming back from stand.by - lifting the lid back up. But it went away after I turned the machine off. It actually already happened twice over the 3 week period i own this t43. The machine had to be powered off, nothing else was helping. But when it came back up, everything was back to normal. Wonder if anybody else had this happen?
