T43 with SSD has slowed down
T43 with SSD has slowed down
Several years ago I installed a SSD in my T43 all went well as far as I remember, I ran crystal disk mark and had read and write readings of 83/79 MB/sec. I have just noticed slow shut downs and startups and checked again, now reading 92/37 MB/sec. First thing I did was run ESET scanner and found some stuff but readings did not change. The drive is a Kingspec 64GB. What should I do next, a SSD utility, more virus scans, open to ideas
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Reseat the connectors is always the thing that might fix your problem for free.
The pins do usually get oxidized after a few years and do cause conductivity problems.

Re: T43 with SSD has slowed down
A system image backup is always handy in this situation.
Knowing your OS would help and I assume you don't have a spinning drive in your ultrabay.
64 GB is not a lot for an OS like Win 7 if that is what you have and it might be lacking free space which SSDs tend to need.

They dont tend to need, they REQUIRE it. All SSDs require free blocks to write to.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

See if Kingston has a utility to check free space and manually do a TRIM.

Re: T43 with SSD has slowed down
Operating system is Xp, I closed it this am and checked a little while ago and it was still on, did not sleep on lid closure. My bad, drive is a Kingspec. I removed drive and reseated it no change
Re: T43 with SSD has slowed down
SSDs need TRIM and this is problematic with XP. The T43 would be happier with Windows 7 but you need 2GB of ram which is not expensive now.

Re: T43 with SSD has slowed down
As you said, the SSD is pretty much old, try to remove unnecessary data, and use 'Defraggler' software. That will help your SSD to re-arrange the data, that will help the OS to retrieve the data in more faster way. Hope this will help.

Re: T43 with SSD has slowed down
Data fragmentation is not an issue with SSD. There is not spinning platter to fragment. Only thing defraging will do is to wear out the SSD.jevette_hayes wrote: ↑Wed Apr 04, 2018 3:10 amAs you said, the SSD is pretty much old, try to remove unnecessary data, and use 'Defraggler' software. Re: T43 with SSD has slowed down
I'm inclined to think that the flash chips in the SSD are beginning to wear out. I've experienced occasional slowdowns on the nearly-3-year-old Kingston mSATA SSD in my X220--there are times when the system will boot slowly and SSD is very sluggish; a full shutdown will restore the SSD's performance to normal.
