T43 2687-DDU Screen Issue

#1 Post by bspooky » Mon Apr 23, 2018 6:40 am

I just won a T43 off of ebay and it seems great except one problem. I notice just a slight ghosting on the display when objects are moving such as the mouse or in certain video games. This is the 15" 1400x1050 model. I know with older screens this was a problem, is this normal for the era? Is there anything I can do to improve it?

What operating system are you using, and have you installed the correct graphics driver?

Currently I am using Windows XP SP3 with the ATI Radeon X300 drivers. I attempted to "force" a faster refresh rate via ATI's software, but it didn't seem to help at all. I was trying to keep this as an offline XP machine, I'm going to try booting to Linux too and see if the issue is there.

I see ghosting on my IPS ThinkPads (T43p and A30p) as well. Those things don't refresh as fast as some other displays.
Also, make sure you are running at 60hz, sometimes these older drivers default to 50hz for resolution like 1400x1050.

Yeah I figured it was IPS related. I was digging into how to overclock displays (which I didn't realize was a thing), but I haven't been too successful yet, nor do I want it to blow up in my face.

Well, try to run it in Windows 7 (with Windows Vista driver) see if problem persists.
Meanwhile instead of digging into this refresh rate issue, try to use that display to enjoy some video playback (These IPS displays are perfect for this other than the black bars which I don't mind of).
