T23 Brightness

#1 Post by Way » Sat Jun 25, 2005 6:57 pm

When I decrease the screen brightness using the fn key there is an audible buzzing from the display on all settings except maximium brightness. When I use the s3 graphics adapter software to decrease the brightness, there is no buzzing. My question is if I use the s3 method of controlling screen brightness, will it still decrease backlight power usage thus economizing on battery life?My thinkpad is still under warranty for a short while so if the buzzing is a fault I would like to take care of it.

The buzzing sounds like a fault to me, None of my T23's do that.

How loud? I never noticed it before reading your post but there is a very faint buzz from mine on all but the very dimest or brightest settings. If yours is audible at a couple feet in a quiet room, something is not right. (Unless you have exceptionally acute hearing) :-)

Seems that you are having the same problem like my T23. Mine had the buzzing sound whener I decreased the brightness.....the lower the brightness the louder the buzzing sound. When I set it to the brightess....it stop buzzing. It seems like the fault of the LCD or something...

Just checked mine, the lower the settings...the louder the sound...I have to get close to hear it. But it's nothing major, and from 2-3 feet you can hardly notice it.

Maybe some part kicking in? Never noticed it before...

I have the same problem!

The buzzing part is the backlight inverter!

On full brightness, the backlight flashes normally, but if you decrease the brighness wwith the fn key, the inverter turns the backlight on and off in a high frequency and thats it, what we hear!

I've tested it on 3 different inverters from one T23 and two T22....

It looks like this buzzing is an effect of an getting old inverter...

My three tested inverters are not louder on lower brightness, but its only a different buzzing... its only heareable if its completely quiet, but then its making me nervous....

changing the brightness via S3 software works without buzzing? i have to test it!!
