Recovery cd for T40 (and 365ED if it exists)

#1 Post by Think700 » Fri May 11, 2018 2:46 pm

Hi there,

I have recently started collecting Thinkpads, with a preference for pre 2000 models.
I have two old Thinkpads for which I am looking for the original recovery disks (or ISO so I can download): a 365ED and a T40.
Here comes the fun part: I work for Lenovo, where I am responsible for the aftersales divisions in the Benelux region (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg).
I asked they guys internally to see if they could find anything.. We don't seem to have it anymore ;-) As both are pre-Lenovo and have been EOS/EOL for quite some time, I was kind of expecting this.

Would anyone here be able to help me out?
Also, I am not sure about recovery mediums to exist for the 365ED.. Can anyone shine a light on this?

Thank you all in advance,

Martin

PS: Is there anywhere on this forum a 'Hi, I am new here and would like to introduce myself'-thread? :D

hello and, yes, welcome to the oldest established floating thinkpad forum in the world..

i might have what you want.. the T40 recovery CD set..
i did have many sets for nearly everything from 755CD through T60 series..

i sold or gave away about 100 early T series CD sets 4 or 5 years past.. but retained a set or three for each.. all of which are in my dusty archives..

as for ancient thinkpads, i have a few of those as well.. well, more than a few.. which i have been selling off slowly.. like a bunch of 701C butterfly's and a few other rare survivors..

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply. I will spend some time on reading threads later this weekend. Good to see so many Thinkfanatics in one place :D

Would be great if you could support me on the T40 recovery disk. I'd be happy with an ISO file, or I would be happy to buy them from you, but I could imagine you'd be keen on keeping them yourself, as you just saved one copy of each model for yourself. So, either way would be more than fine with me. Whatever would work for you, would make me a happy man!

I have been monitoring our local Dutch alternatives for sites like craigslist etc, but the old Thinkpads (lets say pre-t410ish) are quite rare to find.
If you are still selling your 'ancient thinkpads', I might be interested, but I am not sure if for example only shipping will cost me a fortune already.. ;)

I'll be posting a short introduction later (probably tomorrow, 11pm local time now).. Happy to be onboard!
I'd be also happy to contribute to the blog as well, provided I have something useful to share :)

Good evening,

I too am in a similar scenario, but not working for Lenovo. I have recently begun to collect IBM Thinkpads as well. I am in need of recovery disks for a T30 and T40 with Windows XP Professional.

If anyone could help that would be awesome, thanks!

Hi,

In the meanwhile I found some online files, should you be happy with digital ISO files:

T40:
https://archive.org/download/IBMThinkpa ... ecoveryCDs

If you browse the cdrom collection on the site and you search for Thinkpad, you will find several other models, but unfortunately no T30.

Thanks for reply and link,

But unfortunately I found those recovery disks already, made copies, and they are windows 93SE. I am trying to find the windows XP Professional Editions...

From the research I found they never officially released T30 and T40 recovery disks. Any recovery option was on a partition on the hard drive (I could be wrong). Since the Thinkpad's I got didn't have hard drives I am out of luck making any recovery back ups.

Did you check this for T30: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=76270
I don't really need a physical disk sent to me, Did anyone just upload .iso files anywhere?

Uhm, I used those T40 disks I mentioned before, like two days ago to install my T40.
And I am prettttty sure I was looking at WinXP when it was done. ;) Actually, i HAD to register Windows before I could even continue.
I was expecting some issues there, but the mentioned phone number actually still worked for me, so I could register it with a hyperlink sent to my mobile phone via sms.

I would greatly appreciate .iso's of the T30 and T40 disks if you could make them.

Hi Bill,

I would also appreciate isos for T30. Can't find them anywhere and my recovery partition is gone.

Thanks
Tom

just saw this/these posts requesting iso's..
so
i'm going to tell a story here..
sometime, many months or even a year or so, ago, i made iso's of, i think, S30 recovery CD's and bought, for $35 a sandisck 128gig thumb drive, MAILED it to japan to a fellow whose name i have forgotten at this moment, and paid about $15 postage..
you want to know what i got in return..?
NOT EVEN AN EFFING THANKS.. nothing.. nada.. piss in my face..
i suppose i can trace it back from the litter here in my office, but i just don't feel so generous right this moment..
i have a large archive of recovery CD's and i suppose i have an obligation to distribute them to those who might need them ot images of them BUT, right this moment, at 3AM saturday.. err, sunday morning, i am not inclined to grub around in the archives..
i really like being helpful to thinkpad owners, so i'll see what i can do in the day, sunday or monday..

You shouldn't measure every one the same way. It would mean a lot if you could make isos and post them online, on one of the storage websites. Thanks a lot in advance, for your effort.
