How do I know if mine will have short or long fan?
How do I know if mine will have short or long fan?
Is there any way to know, or do all T40's and T41's (not P's) have the "bad one"??
What is better about this T42's technology and what is flexview?
sorry for my ignorance here, just trying to figure out if it is really worth it. I literally use Word, email and surf the net.
I want only thr XGA screen and I want cool and quiet as possible.
thanks!

I am sorry there are three different "long fans".
One for ATI M9 (Mobility 9000) models which some T41 and 42 have. But thats not the quiet one.
There is another one for ATI M10 (Mobility fireGL T2) models which was built into older T41p' s and has been recommended as replacement.
But the last one (newest) ist the quietest and is built into recently built T41p's and T42(p) with either Radeon 9600 or the T2. It has a different part number than the old long fan for M10.
All other models "feature" the short fan which is worst.

Fan on T4 series
So if this is suh an issue and an annoyance, why is everyone still ordering these? I want to order a T41 (not p) but I do not want a loud cycling noise every 5 seconds? Is it basically guaranteed this will happen? Husband has a T40 which is quiet as can be!
Melissa,
Check this thread in answer to your question about the fans... I also included a link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual which tells you which models have which fans.
