SSD Capacity supported by T42P

Hello friends.

I purchased a used Ibm Thinkpad T42P to use legacy softwares/o.s (windows 98 se / windows xp) and linux to use a modern operational system.

I had some desktops but..... I need to talk to you.... I hurt wires! I will use only mobile devices, it's very clean and looks very good on house.

I will use only this device until to buy a new notebook next year, so, the upgrade will be welcome!

I read about people which upgraded successfully a T42 using msata and an adapter.

Since that I bought this computer for my use and I will not sell it, I want to upgrade this device.

The computer already has 2gb ram installed, and I purchased a Pentium M 765 to upgrade cpu (PM 745 already installed) and an adapter 1.8" to 2.5"

So, my doubt is about the max capacity supported by bios this computer.

Someone already test a 1tb hd/msata drive on this computer? Or this device is limited by 500gb?

I would think a T42p should work with 1TB mSATA -- I've got an older A31p running with 500gb mSATA (1TB was too much) and a newer T43pS with a 2TB SSD -- so, 500gb should be safe bet.

Also, for more storage, consider you can put another HDD/SSD in the UltraBay (probably up to 2TB), and/or spare unused USB port(s) could be fitted with affordable SanDisk UltraFits which run up to 256gb and barely stick out at all (e.g., I use one for a full music library).

Just curious, so did your Samsung Evo 860 SSD of 1 TB capacity work on your T42p ?
I suspect your 1 TB SSD is a SATA interface SSD, so would not fit into the Parallel ATA (PATA) interface of T42p.

The T42/T42p era used Parallel ATA (PATA) Hard Drive, and back then, even a 120 GB Hard Drive is very large back then.
I did use a 120 GB 7200 RPM HDD at one point for my T42 (which is not T42p), then upgraded to a similar size Transcend PATA SSD.

(The numerous very-short system freeze-up under Win XP when using this Transcend PATA SSD scared the ** out of me.
But from actual 1+ year of using this PATA SSD, there was no data corruption from those very-short system freeze-up.)

I used to have a T42 (note: not T42p) with "higher end specs", which was 1 GB RAM, 40 GB HDD, 1400x1050 SXGA+ LCD screen, etc.
I did retrofit my T42 with both Parallel ATA HDD and SSD which are up to 120 GB in size, which was huge in its day.

But I find it hard to imagine that T42p would work with a mSATA 1TB SSD (user retrofitted), using a stock IBM/ThinkPad BIOS...
