Samsung 14.1" Screen & Thai Keyboar on my T43

#1 Post by JHaislet » Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:50 am

I just looked up the serial number on my T43 and found it comes with a 14.1" Samsung screen. How are these current Samsung screens compared to the Hydis and other 14.1" screens? Are the Hydis panels still preferable like they were a couple months ago with the T42's, or have the tables turned?

Also, I was lucky enough to get the Thai (NMB) keyboard :)

Are recovery CD's now coming with T43's? Mine won't be here until Friday, but it has FRU# 24R8100 RECOVERY CD WXPP US ENGLISH as an included part. Or does this just mean my HDD was IMAGED with that cd set?

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the parts. Ended up with the Sony 9-cell battery (instead of sanyo or panasonic), Hitachi 80GB 5400rpm (instead of fuji), but was kinda hoping for the Hydis LCD panel as I've heard they've got a hair better viewing angle and are a tiny bit brighter.

On an unrelated note, I just looked up my warranty status (by serial number), and its listed as the standard 3yr Depot warranty. However, I purchased the 4yr On-Site w/ Thinkpad Protection. I'm assuming it just takes a bit to update all this stuff and the warranty hasn't yet been applied to my system, correct?

From my experiance, the Hydis in the T42 is better. I have a 2373 M3U with the Hydis panel and my buddy and a 2378 FVU with the Samsung panel. We put them side by side with the brightness on both all the way up and we agreed that the Hydis was better, although there is only a slight difference. Viewing angles seemed the same but the brightness and color is a bit better on the Hydis. I would not be dissapointed with either panel though.

Nice...

How does the screen look when you are watching a DVD or playing games? Are the colors vivid?

The laptop should be here Friday, so I'll know more then. I just looked up my system spec's by serial number and that's what it showed.
