can't power up my new t42p :(
i just got my t42p a few days ago after waiting about 3 weeks- having to deal with a really bad customer service representative who would never call me back.
anyhow, i like the computer a lot but now its not working. i think something is wrong with the USB ports, if i USB plug in the usb port was jiggled the computer would reboot. now after it happened once, it's not powering on anymore. it seems like it might have shorted it out? is there anything i can do?
i looked at one of the usb ports, and opne of them has 4 or 5 (i forget)golden plates inside of it. the top port is missing one of these plates and has an exposed metal piece.
i'm abroad, and will be abroad for the year, so it's going to be a hassle to send it back.. but i might have to. but in the meantime is there anything i can do?

I assume you have tried removing battery and ac power for a few minutes and tried again, in this case there is most likely nothing you can do.
While i wouldn't advise 'jiggling' the USB port, if your top port looks different to the bottom one then you have a problem (although i think there should only be 4 visible gold pins) - either your board was damaged, a device you attached caused damage or it didn't like being jiggled.

well i didn't jiggle it on purpose of course, it was just on my lap and if it got bumped just a little it reboot. this happened several times. then i went to download some pictures off my camera and that totally shorted the thing out apparently. i've tried removing the battery and ac and all that. nothing so far.
its a new thinkpad from lenovo.
sigh, i waited for this thing for forever and had to call everyone but my customer service rep that placed the order to get anything done. then they shipped it to the wrong address and had to get it rerouted. hope i can return it and get one shipped to me in china.
