Everytime I install Access Connection, I have this problem, so I found a solution - I don't install Access Connection and use the Windows interface :) Sure, it's not really customizable but it does the job!

download new wireless driver

#62 Post by jay03 » Tue Mar 14, 2006 8:12 am

Many thanks for everyone that posted to this thread. The following worked for me (T41P).

Thinkpad driver downloads available here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... date=false

First I downloaded the latest Access Connection program. That did not help. I then proceeded to download the latest wireless driver:

Run setup, it detects the existing driver, asks if you want to uninstall. Say yes, system reboots. On reboot, windows asks if you want to install a new driver for the card, say No, cancel out. Run setup.exe from the driver you just downloaded. It installs the driver and asks to reboot. Pretty painless, thanks for all the pointers in the right direction.

Turning on Wireless Radio in Access Connections 4.11a

#63 Post by jaybea » Wed Mar 15, 2006 7:12 am

I have a T42, running Access Connections 4.11a and had the same problems turning on the wireless radio from AC. Although the Wireless Radio button was enabled in AC, clicking the button did not have any effect, and AC did not report the wireless state and could not show available networks even when the wireless radio was turned on. I think the problem appeared before I installed the new Intel PRO/Wireless drivers 9.0.4.8 - it may have been linked to the update of Access Connections to 4.11.

I have tried all the suggestions here to fix it, with numerous uninstall/reinstall cycles. What finally appears to have worked for me was downgrading the PRO/Wireless drivers to 9.0.1.21 - that is, uninstalling the original PRO/Wireless drivers and installing the original drivers from IBMTOOLS/Drivers/WLANCX2A. I also uninstalled and reinstalled AC as part of this process, but don't know whether this was a factor, as I have done this several times previously with no effect. Setup for these PRO/Wireless drivers reports as version 9.0.0.3 but the wirless drivers installed were 9.0.1.21. Finally I can switch the wireless radio on and off again within AC!.

After you've tried everything else...

Do a search for the file, LIBEAY32.DLL... if you find the file in C:\Windows\System32, then your Fn-F5 ability to control the wlan card will not work.

As a test case, rename the file to LIBEAY32.OLD, and try Fn-F5 again. You won't need to reboot, just rename the file, and test your Fn-F5. If that's the problem, then it'll work immediately after rename.

a possible solution

#65 Post by angel666 » Thu Apr 13, 2006 2:21 pm

I had the exact same problems everyone had. Technically I was not supposed to install anything that doesnt come from our IT. I did it anyway and paid the price.

I installed, uninstalled different versions of proset, IBM access etc. Nothing worked. I tried almost all the solutions suggested here. It seemed to work. But if works at home, it didnt at my work. Anyways finally called our IT and he uninstalled IBM Access Connections and installed the original PROSet s/w. Voila! Everything's back to normal now.

Here are the details. Please let me know if it works. I'd be happy to provide more details.

Intel PROSet version 8.0.0
Driver Version 8.0.12.200000

I have 2200BG and T42.

Thanks,
Raghu
