T42p - ODD Upgrade

#1 Post by BlueFalcon » Thu May 23, 2019 7:20 pm

Hello, guys!

I purchaded some itens to upgrade my t42p, however, I saw that it`s necessary to upgrade the rom using no-1802 rom.
And, so, I can`t upgrade it because my dvd ram is no workable, all the discs (cd-rw or dvd-rw) discs are no recognized by ODD, the model is Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-812.

Well, so, I only would like to know which is better option (brand/model) to replace is drive,

I will happy to know which are your suggestions.

Thank you!

These T4x drives are about 15 years old now. A media drive from T60/61 will fit the slot and work just fine.

Happy hunting.

The Lenovo-branded Sony Optiarc AD-7910A should do, and I believe that it is one of the best Ultrabay Slim drives that are available.

The other options that I could suggest, would be the Lenovo-branded HL-DL-ST GSA-4083N, or the GSA-U10N. I would also suggest staying away from any Ultrabay Slim drives that are made by Panasonic/Matsushīta, since most of them are not very reliable, or they are outright incapable of writing to some discs that they 'dislike'.

This was just my experience with Panasonic/Matsushīta drives, though. They might have improved the quality of their optical disc drives, so I may be wrong.
