Overriding Suspend

#1 Post by energyandair » Tue Jul 05, 2005 12:22 am

I find it convenient to have my T42 set to suspend when I close the lid but it is a PITA when I want to undock the computer and carry it to another room.

Is there a keystroke option that will override the automatic suspend function? If not, I guess that I'll try setting it to do nothing when I close the lid and hope that I always remember to suspend manually.

I've been wondering this as well for two reasons. I would like to be able to play mp3's with the lid closed while I am doing some other activity for example naping on a plane. Secondly I want to be able to close the lid when I am using TV out to watch a movie or tv show so that I don't have all the extra light when I am trying to watch in a dark environment.

You can use Fn F4 to suspend, instead of lid close. Without an external keyboard, I can't press a key while closing the lid.

You can set it not to suspend when you close the lid. Just go to Control panel -> Performance and maintenance -> Power options -> Advance, and set it to do nothing when you close the lid.

But like energyandair said, you will have to manually set it to suspend everytime after that.

If you just do not want the screen to be lit, just press Fn F3 to shut down the LCD.

As for overriding the automatic suspend, then not so sure

Right, problem being that it turns off both monitors not just the LCD so if I want the TV on and the LCD off Fn F3 will not work.
