My hidden partition has turned into unallocated space!

#1 Post by DJHingapus » Tue Jul 05, 2005 1:25 pm

I have made a fresh install of windows xp, and in the process I deleted the files on the hidden partition... Know it has turned into unallocated space in diskmanagement?? How do I get access to this space, I want to add em to my c: partition..

Any help?

Did you disable "Protect the hidden partition" or whatever in the BIOS?

What I would do is use partition magic or some other program and repartition your hard drive into one large partition, and reinstall XP.

Backup your IBM drivers folder, etc, if you haven't already (or if you still can).

Worse comes to worse you order recovery CDs from IBM.

DJHingapus,
Your best bet is to install some partitioning software like Acronis Disk Director or PartitionMagic. Using these programs, it is fairly easy and relatively safe to manage disk space, create partitions etc. in Windows. environment.

Install Acronis Disk Director (I think there's a 30 day free trial), you can use it to move the unallocated space to your existing partition and you won't have to reinstall XP.

Got to http://www.dfsee.com/ and download the package. You can create a bootable CD or floppy and do all the partioning you will ever need. This package works with Windoze, Os/2-ecs and Linux. Very usefull to have. The demo is good for 30 days.

If you ever decide to do a R&R and replace the partition, enable security in the predesktop area in BIOS and it will be replaced as it was from the factory. If you leave secruity disabled your OS will try to reclaim the space.
