How can I get this to look better and one black color

#1 Post by Smack2k » Thu Sep 05, 2019 6:41 pm

This is an IBM T40 Laptop I have. As you can see from the photo, the lid is a mess and came that way to me. Otherwise, it works great. I put a new HDD in it, installed Windows 98 and some other software and it runs like a champ...but this lid is KILLING me...what can I do to try and make it better?

Plasti-Dip would be a last option for me.....I am not great with even layers of paints / dips and I know I'd mess up trying to cut out the IBM Thinkpad part on the top of the lid....

I have tried Plastx / Chrome Cleaner / Toothpaste / Mother's Wax and nothing...The thing is smooth as silk on top but looks like crap.....HELP!!!

Hi,

You can apply adhesive vinyl wrap on the lid. It is very effective and cheap solution. Your t41 will look great and your ocd will calm down. I would choose matte black, it is soft to the touch and doesn't collect fingerprints. 8)

I would put on carbon fiber vinyl wrap on my T60p and T430s, it looks pretty nice and I like the feel of the texture.
I would link my imgur but it seems that the site is down when viewing my photos.

The wrap would fit nicely on the lid, no need for using a blow dryer unless you're in a very cold climate, it should stick just fine.
Edges are kinda strange sometimes, especially if they rub a lot on things.... but a slice with an exacto knife or the use of glue may help better.

What they didn't show you: does it leave fingerprints when you touch a Nivea-creamed lid?
I bet it does, and then something terrible!
Compare that to MY T23, where you will never have to worry again about scratches, stains, fingerprints, you name it!
