bios 1.09 ? Got an answer from ibm

#1 Post by nrj45 » Wed Jul 06, 2005 11:12 am

Hello,
To moderators :
  • - what about making this topic sticky ?
To everybody :
what about making a thread about the future 1.09 bios version ? This topic would link some issues described in other topics (I mean hdd compatibility, fan issue).
The goal is to have as soon as possible information on :
  • - the date of the bios release
    - what is to be fixed / what will be fixed
Here is a description of what to add to the current bios to have my "perfect bios" :
  • - Choosing the vcore for each step of speedstep technology (with a security that restores default values if crashing or smth like that)
    - Choosing the acpi temperature switch for each speed of the fan. I compared my t43p with a friend's t40p wich seemed to be fanless. Actually the fan was running but very very slower and quieter than my t43p. My t43p starts to "fan" at 40°C at a medium rpm (compared to the t40p). And it keeps its speed until reaching 65°C (then it's at high rpm).

The thinkpad has half a dozen temperature sensors around different components. The one you are quoting may or may not have triggered the fan. In any case, I'm sure that IBM/Lenovo will never publish a BIOS that contains dangerous settings where a wrong entry causes the computer to melt :-)

Someone posted a rumor about the date of upcoming software upgrades in another forum: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=12986 .

Apparently they're planing to release new upgrades together every six months. This may apply to the BIOS update as well.
T40 2373-19U in use; T42 2379-R1U on the way
