Infrared port is in use

#1 Post by krcmd » Wed Jul 06, 2005 8:54 pm

After success with synching my palm with my T43, today I have been unable on the limited user, and intermittantly on the administrative user. Palm message is "port is in use by another application."

Can this be blockage by antispyware applications? by updated internet security software?

How can I determine what "other application" is using the port?
Thank you.

I may be wrong, but I suspect that the syncronizing software you are using for the Palm, is not releasing itself from memory. Probably if you reboot, you'll be able to sync with your Palm again. This problem may keep reappearing after you sync, so you may need to reboot before you sync again.

infrared problem

Thank you.

I think I fixed the problem by changing the COM port setting within hotsynch setup. I don't know how it got changed from the original setting. Or, somehow windows changed the com port of the infrared device without notifying me.

solution

The problem is not the COM port setting.

If the hotsync application isn't loaded before the palm approaches the ir transducer(beam, receptor, whatever), the thinkpad apparently launches its own application which then blocks the hotsync application from using the port.

So, the problem is fixed by loading hotsync at boot, or by keeping the palm away from the computer until hotsync is loaded.
