diff between t41 and t40?
hey,
i recently totalled my T40. im looking to get another thinkpad, but im not sure whether i should get a T40 or a T41 off ebay.
T41s seem to go for about $100 more than T40s.. but they seem pretty similar to me. is there even any difference between the T40 and T41? my T40 SXGA had a pretty washed out screen... are T41s any better?
is the extra $100 worth it for a T41?

The T41's were the first T4x to contain the Active Protection System, which detects when the ThinkPad is falling and parks the hard drive heads before impact. This goes a long way towards making sure the heads don't crash on impact and destroy the hard disk.
Otherwise, there's no difference. I'd go for a T41 just for the APS

I believe that there were some updated video cards available on the T41 as well, like the ATI 9600 compared to the 9000 on the T40. T41p has the 128MB FireGL T2 instead of the 64MB FireGL 9000 on the T40p.

T42s have the newer Dothan processors.

IMO, it's pretty much a tie between Banias (0.13u Pentium M) and Dothan (0.09u) as far as performance goes.
At the same Front Side Bus rating, Banias has a lower TDP at lowest speed, but Dothan has a lower TDP rating at the highest speed (21 watts compared to 24 watts). A Dothan Pentium M probably uses the FSB a bit less than Banias due to its 2M cache.
