T43 2668-72U vs 2687-DVU

#1 Post by vijaysingh » Thu Jul 07, 2005 6:35 pm

I just got the price information of 2668-72U and 2687-DVU using the EPP program.
2668-72U $1,611.35
2687-DVU $1,649.25

Here are the mode desc:
2668-72U Pentium M 760 2.00 512MB 14.1" SXGA+ X300 80HS DVD±RW Intel 11a/b/g Mod/Blue Finger 6 Cell 3 yrs

2687-DVU Pentium M 760 2.00 512MB 15.0" SXGA+ 64MB 80HS DVD±RW Intel 11a/b/g Mod/Blue Finger 5.1 hr 9-cell 3 yrs

The main (only) diff between two models is Screen size and battery.
The cost diff is about $38.

My question is which one should I pick as there is not much diff by cost. I am a software developer and going to use the system as a professional.

266875U is almost identical to the 266872U except for the wireless card. If you need the laptop right now, get the 266875U because it's in stock. My order was shipped within one day. Ordered on July 5 and shipped out on July 6.

I don't get why people would want a 15.0" on a T Series thinkpad. If I want a 15.0" I will get the R52. 14.1" SXGA is appropriate for the T Series because you are buying it as a carry on laptop.

I prefer the 14.1 inch to the 15 inch, keeps the T thin light and happy :) but its all preference, if your vision is bad you may prefer the 15 inch.

It's just personal preference! I did a cost benefit analysis while buying and since the difference was less than $50 between a 14.1" and 15" screen, I went with the 15" which also has FlexView (I am not sure whether the 14.1" has it or not).

The bottomline is you will not go wrong with either one, it is a ThinkPad...you should not think a lot before you buy!!!
2687-DVU - 15" FlexView, 64MB x300, 1 GB, 80 GB 5K4 HDD, DVD±RW, Wireless A/B/G/BT, FP Reader.

I'd pick the DVU between those two.

But - unless you really need the extra 20GB of harddrive space, consider the DUU instead. Same except the processor is a 1.86 750.

The marginal performance improvement wasn't worth another $150 (on EPP) for me.

Just ordered three of the June series boxes - but went with DRU/DUU instead of the DSU/DVU since the latter ended up being about 10 percent more.

I went with the DVU and I love love love it. Well, except for the 9-cell battery protruding out the back of the laptop, but I do love the looong battery life. IMHO the 15" screen is absolutely worth it. I do software development for a living and always have a bunch of windows open and the 15" is the perfect size.

Either way,though, you'll be happy :)
