problems with making usb 2.0 work on T30 in windows xp sp2
problems with making usb 2.0 work on T30 in windows xp sp2
I just installed windows xp with sp2 and found that usb 2.0 devices do not work. For some reason windows installer refuses to install Enhanced Host Controller(ehci) and instead installs low speed(uhci) drives.
This problem drives me crazy since i use hi-speed usb almost all the time and consider going back to windows 2000 sp4 where it worked without any problems.
Has anyone seen this and/or know how to fix this? Could anyone with T30 and windows xp with working usb 2.0 post list of usb devices?
Here's how my usb devices look like :

Thanks a lot!

Sorry, I'm not savvy on how to insert an image. I've got one, but I haven't figured out how to paste it into my post.

I read the post but guess it's not the problem i have. I just cannot make windows install Eenhanced usb controller that is responsible for usb 2.0.
Posting image is very easy, just upload file on imageshack.com, it will give you set of links to file you uploaded. one of the links is in forum specific format, so you just copy-paste it here.
Thanks for the Imageshack info. BTW I referred you to the other forum to see the specifics of what I found in my Device Manager re: USB. Here is an image from Device Manager on my T-42:

You do know that the USB ports in the T30 are 1.1 only and not 2.0?rera wrote:I just installed windows xp with sp2 and found that usb 2.0 devices do not work.

OMG
Thank you James, you saved me from craziness.
i just had impression that i used my t30(have t41,t30 and t20) to scan images with usb 2.0.
Just checked specifications and you are absolutely right.
Also if external usb 2.0 hub(i.e. usb 2.0 in monitor) is connected to t30 usb port it will still work in usb 1.1 mode?

Correct, Hubs will only pass on what they're fed, same with Port Replicators and Docking Stations.rera wrote:Also if external usb 2.0 hub(i.e. usb 2.0 in monitor) is connected to t30 usb port it will still work in usb 1.1 mode?
I.e., even if the Hub, PR or Dock is capable of USB2.0, they'll only be USB1.1 if that's all the connected Thinkpad puts out.

If you want USB 2.0 support, there are PCMCIA USB 2.0 cards available. Here is just one example:

Agree: The T30 has only USB 1.1 support. I bought a USB 2.0 PC card on ebay for about $15 some time ago. I believe you can find PC cards that offer USB and FireWire. You might go that route for more flexability....
