Battery Maximiser loses status on standby (T21)

I'm a new Thinkpad owner - just got a used T21 running XP Pro. I used the IBM tools to get what is supposedly the latest version of all the software I need so it now has the Maximiser (it didn't when I got it). Everything seems to work ok and as expected except when I go into standby mode (whether by using the Fn/F4 or closing the lid). Irregardless of whether I'm plugged in or not, the battery status light will eventually start blinking orange and when I come out of standby, Maximiser has lost the status of the battery (the Windows batt indicator does not though). I need to Shutdown (and unplug AC for a second if it was plugged in) and restart to get the status back. I assume this is not normal behavior. It appears to work fine in hibernate mode.

I searched around for this issue but found nothing at all. Any ideas???
