Do the T42 and T40 have the same size keyboards?

#1 Post by muffd » Thu Jul 14, 2005 12:21 pm

I have a T40 with the Chinese keyboard and have T42 with the Thailand keyboard. I definitely like the feel much better with the Thailand keyboard and want to know if there is a way I can call IBM to request the Thailand keyboard as a replacement for my chinese one.

Thanks

You to go to IBM's website and lookup which parts shipped with your Thinkpads. After you get the FRU #'s, come back here and do a search for those numbers and you'll find out. Take's a bit of work but it's worth it.

I just called IBM and told them my keyboard is messed up and if they can send me another one. I then gave them the FRU for the keyboard that came with my T42 (Thailand) and they are going to send it tonight.

Hmm...

Kinda offtopic, because it's an X series question, but also on topic, because it's a keyboard question.

The IBM P/N (not FRU - the FRU is 0000000, which is obviously wrong) is 02K5789. So, who made it? There's an 02K5760 which is also for the X2 models.

Update..I got my keyboard today and installed it fairly easily. Much better than the Chinese keyboard. I think they forgot to send me a shipping label to ship back the old keyboard.

Here is a link to find what's installed in your system.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... sLookup.vm

Here is a link to find out what the country of origin is. You choose your system, then Keyboard service parts. NMB is Thai, Alps is Chinese, Chicony is Chinese (I think).

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... d=TPAD-FRU

If your part number does not show up on this list (as it didn't on my T-42), do a search on this forum or on Google using your FRU part number. Hopefully you can then find out the manufacturer of the keyboard.

Gom, I think you posted this before. That's where I found out how to find out my keyboard. Great info and thanks for sharing with the others once again.
