LCD controller board for T42p Panel
LCD controller board for T42p Panel
Hello all.
I have a broken T42P and I would like to re-use the beautiful panel for other projects. Has anyone done this and know which LCD controller board to get? I have tried a couple from EBAY with no luck. Panel part no. is 92P6672
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!
I'm not quite sure what your question relates to. That panel can be used in almost any T4x/R5x series ThinkPad, but not in a vast majority of other laptops.
Buying a replacement motherboard would be an easy way of getting that T42p back in service.

Re: LCD controller board for T42p Panel
Thank you for your reply,
To clarify. I'd like to repurpose the panel as a stand-alone screen. I've seen DIY projects that do this, but I have been unable to identify the LCD controller board that would be compatible with it. Kits such as: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-1080 ... 5036198402
Thanks!

Re: LCD controller board for T42p Panel
My apologies for not having any constructive suggestions to offer in this respect.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than myself in the given area will chime in.
Good luck.

Re: LCD controller board for T42p Panel
Hi, here's what I've noticed. Some display panes are more famous than others. For example HV150UX1-100 is arguably the most famous panel for T60. The names of such panels are often good search worlds to find controller panels on ebay and AliExpress.
Is your panel similarly famous? I searched for the FRU you provided online and it seems it is also known as "N150U3-L01"
Is that right? Do you see that anywhere on your panel?
Once I searched "N150U3-L01" on ebay I indeed found this kit.
I cannot guarantee it will work, but I think you have a chance with it.
Alternatively you could find some panel more famous than yours but compatible with the same Thinkpad - and ideally of the same resolution - and look for a controller specifically intended for that other panel. You would also need to make sure that the type of backlight matches between your and the other "famous" panel - they'd either need to be both CCFL-backlight or both LED-backlight.
P.S. The kit you linked to as an example is quite obviously not the right one because it is a kit for panels with eDP (which probably electrically matches DP = display port but is an internal rather than external connector). T42p as well as models of Thinkpads up to and including X230/T430/T530/W530 all use LVDS connectors I believe. In my understanding eDP started from T440. You can quite easily see how the connector cables differ between this eDP kit and the LVDS kit I linked to. Of course it's quite likely you didn't mean to imply this kid was compatible.
