timbuk2 thinkpad bag recommendation

#1 Post by Killjoy00 » Wed Jun 23, 2004 10:13 pm

Hey guys,

I ended up getting the 3n1 Timbuk2 bag for my T41P. The thinkpad fits perfectly although with my huge casebook, my federal rules of civil procedure and a notebook, its a tight fit and pretty heavy. I have to use it as a backpack almost always. So, a little smaller than i had expected but very durable feeling .. good protection. I got it for $80 at ebags.

I am confused tho - maybe someone with the bag can help me with this. It says 3in1 and comes with a third strap separate. For the live of me, I can't figure out what the 3rd mode is and what the third strap is for exactly. Anyone know?

Thanks,
Ryan

Is it the waist strap?

anyway. I have the commute and I like it a lot. The construction is very durable and lots of pockets inside.

Hey Ryan,

You mean the Detour, right? That's the one I have. I'll be starting law school in the fall and in comforting to know it'll fit all my s**t!

I believe the 3rd strap they are referring to is the messenger bag strap. So the three modes would be:

Mode #1: Backpack (don't you love how those loops tuck away?)
Mode #2: Briefcase (the bag will even stay upright when you set it down)
Mode #3: Messenger Bag

I replaced the messenger strap already though with one that has much more padding. The one included with the bad was quite disappointing.

I didn't think of a waist strap... I guess you could attach it to the bottom links that I use with the backpack. When do you use the waist strap?

If you use it as a briefcase it wouldn't use any strap at all? There are the backpack straps hidden away, the shoulder strap and then a smaller strap with an attachment halfway across that lets you unclip it and the smaller strap has no padding.
