My T43p delayed for another 3 weeks

#1 Post by Chordate » Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:53 am

So now my T43p is estimated to ship OVER 8 weeks after my order... That is over two months. Suposedly Lenovo rejected a shipment of over 10,000 laptop hard drives due to quality control testing. Now, I must have a laptop before school starts, so I guess I am going to have to cancel my order and get a Dell or Asus. :(

Hi just talked to my rep, Even my order might get delayed. yes they have indeed reject an order of 20,000 hard drives, this is what i was told. I had placed the order on 1 July, was expected to ship on 26. :( now chances are remote that it would be shipped by end of july too. anyway all i can say is dont cancel the thinkpad for dell or asus. have had bad experience with dell and that is making me shift to thinkpad, it will be my first one

What type of harddrives were rejected?

Thats unfortunate, I learned today my thinkpad is shipping 2 weeks earlier than expected.

All 7200 RPM drives, all X41 Tablet drives, and drives for many different laptops... is what I was told.

Not the 7K60s. AFAIK the rejected HDs were the 80GB and 100GB 7200RPM variants.

I haven't heard of any problems with 1.8" HDs other than availability.

They make 80 and 100 gig 7200 RPM laptop drives? I was told that my 60 gig 7200 RPM was the largest for the 7200 drives.

hmm. i might be saved. i ordered a 2687DDU. It comes with a 60 Gb 5400 rpm drive. so might not get more delayed after all. Yeah even i was under the impression that for 7200 rpm the max size is 60 gigs not 80 or 100, wierd. anybody with more info on this?? :?

Yes, they make them. No, nobody can get any! There's also a 120GB 5400RPM HD "available".

There's a raft of new T43/p's waiting in the wings to be announced with 80GB and 100GB UltraHighSpeed (7200RPM) HDs, but the new drives are a no-show due to manufacturing problems.

The problems with the 7K60s are due to availability AFAIK, same as for the 1.8" HDs.

My CTO R52 keeps getting delayed, and delayed some more. A week ago my rep said they had some Intel chipset issues. Any my CTO Thinkpad doesn't have a HD so I think there are some other issues going on here.

yes boiler maker, i had come across some posts about the chipset issue. I think that in the thinkpads shipping now the issue would most likely have been sorted out. anyone else whose thinkpad got delayed?? thanks jhem. looks like you have some links in there  anyway, any inputs from anyone who has more to say on whats causing our thinkpads to get delayed, are welcome.

I am pretty sure I am going to get an Asus Z70V refresh... I just wish it had a fingerprint reader.

Why not consider a used or open box T41p, or a T42p if you have your heart set on the fingerprint reader.

I'd hate to see you turn to the dark side!

Because I want the top of the line... so I guess I am out of luck. I don't have my heart set... its just that it is a nice feature to have. Also, is the faster HD the only new thing they will be releasing?

"Top of the line" is subjective, at best.

There's no functional differences between my two T41p machines and my T42p, to the extent that my daily driver is a T41p.

Yes, the HD upgrades are the only "major" changes coming in the near future.

Grab a used or refurb machine that will meet your requirements and save a LOT of money!

Money is not really a huge issue... and I don't want a used/refurb.

I know he had some NIB T43p units last week, 2668-G7U and 2668-G5U.

so anybody else has something to say about what is happening. is the HD's the bottleneck for the shipment of T43's or the wireless chipsets or something else. Anybody else got any news from their respective sales rep
