RAM Upgrade for the T43

#1 Post by herr.nilsson » Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:56 am

Hi folks,

I´d like to upgrade my T43 with 1GB RAM. Are there any known problems with it? I know that my old T40 had an Bioscheck, if the RAM is an IBM on or not. Is there something like that with the new Thinkpads?

Does anybody know if there is a manufacturer which is generally accepted by the Thinkpad?

A short answer would be nice.

greetings from berlin

I just bought a 512MB module at CompUSA for $159, brand is "Corsair" DDR2 4200 533mhz. "That's some fast ram" the salesperson remarked! Indeed. Works like a charm, although I probably paid too much for convience sake.

Crucial seems to have the best reputation. Try searching the forums, there have been a few posts related to this.

You paid about $100 too much.

To the OP, order your RAM online from newegg, mwave or crucial for example. I highly recommend crucial ram.

Well on crucial.com you can get one for 139 + tax

I'll suggest part # CT12864AC53E (CT12864AC53E.16FB) it's for 139 + tax
If you use crucial memory Configurator tool it will show you Part # CT435138 But when Crucial Invoice and Ships this item it's same it will show you as
CT12864AC53E.16FB
CT435138

but price is 148.52.

USE coupan EOLPROMO (4% off) that will knock off 5.60 from (139) price.

I've bought bothways that's how I know it. i call crucial and tried to get credit but there was no way so I returned the memory and then repurchased.

Pablo - emorphien's right, you paid WAY too much for only a 512 MB. That's even too much for a 1GB. Mwave has a Gig for $116.

Danny - according to others here at the forums who have tested their memory with testing software Kingston sometimes comes back with memory errors whereas Crucial is guaranteed. How noticeable those errors are for Kingston, probably not a whole lot.

I tried Kinston and it did not work. They sent a replacement and it created errors. Been doing Crucial for the last few laptops and never an error, ever.
