two questions on a T41p
two questions on a T41p
Dear all,
yesterday I finally managed to swap the LCD of my old T41p with another one that I took off of an identical machine (bricked) which I knew it was brighter.
To my surprise I didn't notice any improvement...
Could it be the inverter?
Can I swap the inverter without dismantling the entire lcd once again?
On a side note:
is there any known software/bios way to switch off the fan on this machine?
thanks a lot in advance
A.

Re: two questions on a T41p
Sure, it's possible it's the inverter. You will need to take the LCD bezel apart to get at it (it's also what all the LED indicators in the screen are on) but you won't need to remove the screen/lid from the machine itself.
As far as fan - you can use TPFanControl to control your fan speed and monitor temperatures. I recommend a fresh, properly applied layer of fresh thermal compound to ensure maximum cooling effectiveness at the same time. These systems can get toasty, depending on your CPU and loading.

Re: two questions on a T41p
Thanks.
I did swap the inverter but stilll ... boh,
I recall this lcd was better, maybe it got old while not in use??
As for the fan:
this the T41p with 3 stucked screws that I still didn't embark in trying to drill out and that prevents me from reaching the interior, cleaning, upgrading RAM, etc..
In the mean time I was wondering if I could just stop the noisy fan which is really annoying and just use it for writing tasks.

Re: two questions on a T41p
Well if your brightness issue only occurs under battery, then it's most probably you having the brightness option set to Normal under battery. Change that setting to high will give you identical brightness scales when plugged and unplugged.
Moreover, if you are talking about swapping in a screen from a Dell or HP, then chances are the brightness is going to look a bit different.

Re: two questions on a T41p
Thanks for your reply.
The T41p is plugged.
Its battery is way too old to hold any charge.
As for the swap I am just using an LCD form an identical machine, that I recall was better.
But still we are talking about machine about 20 years old..
Would be nice if new LCDs were available for this machines, but those were 14.1 and 1400x1050.
So I believe hard if not impossible to find.

Re: two questions on a T41p
Well maybe you shouldn't give too much of a focus on finding a new LCD panel, since almost all of the 14.1" 4:3 panels are horrible in viewing angles and colour reproduction and can give you quite the eye strain.achat_2 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 11:15 amAs for the swap I am just using an LCD form an identical machine, that I recall was better.

But if you must find one, then any SXGA+ ones from the 14.1" T4x/T6x series, as well as even the T23 will work fine (Though the T23 LCD panels might be even worse for those reasons above).
