9 cell and 6 cell

#1 Post by mgenin » Tue Jul 19, 2005 3:02 pm

The IBM t42 comes with a 6 cell, while other models of the t42 come with a 9 cell.... On the 3D tour, it shows a larger battery, that sticks out of the back of the laptop. Is this the 9 cell?

Yes. The 9-cell sticks out the back.

I have 6-cell, 9-cell and Slim Ultrabay batteries for my T42p. I normally use the 6-cell only. When I'm on a long flight, I use the 6-cell and slim battery together, and have the 9-cell in my bag as a backup reserve.

Most people don't mind the battery sticking out the back, but I personally find it annoying. That's why I only use the 9-cell as a backup.

Yes, the 9-cell will stick out the back, but it's not so bad. The bigger issue in my opinion is that the 9-cell battery will add a good half pound to the total system weight, which may or may not be an issue for you.
I got my first PC - an IBM ThinkPad T43 (2687-DVU)!

My T42p really feels heavy when I've got the 9 cell and the ultraslim battery installed, but man I love the 9 hours of unplugged use that I get.

I'm currently attending a military course and often there are no plugs where I end up sitting. With the above combination I can get through a whole day of class, and when we go late, I can still swap to my 6-cell which I bring in my bag for a total of almost 14 hours away from AC power.

I replaced my 6-cell with the 9 when the 6 died. I really like not having to worry about running out of juice, and don't notice the weight, but the extra hanging out the back is a bit strange. It's a trade-off.
