Does the T43 come with Lotus Notes software?

#1 Post by ionak » Tue Jul 19, 2005 6:33 pm

For all the new T43/p owners, the tabsheet talks about a license for Lotus Notes software standalone client that comes with the thinkpad.

Could you tell me what this is. Does the new thinkpad come with Lotus notes software?

Appreciate any help on this,

Thanks!

Not trying to be ugly here, but Lotus Notes is one of those things that if you don't know what it is, you don't want it.

Yeah Notes is not a good thing. However many corporations use it (including the one I work for) so it can be handy to have a licence for the software. You just need to call IBM (the number is the in back of your thinkpad manual) and they will send you the notes and smartsuite software to which they have already included the licence. Unfortunately if you want to connect to a domino server and use some of the database features I believe you need to upgrade your licence.

Lotus Notes is fantastic, particularly v6. In my new job I'm having use use Outlook and what a stinking festering turd it is! It's like something a college student knocked up in his spare time at home, urgh!

I've used Notes or Outlook for years in different corporate environments. They both have their strong and weak points. My personal preference is Notes, and I've seen some companies build some pretty amazing applications with it. For strictly e-mail and group contact and calendar management, Outlook was perfectly capable.

Can't stand Notes here. Had to use version 5.x? a couple years ago and it was possibly the most user-unfriendly program I've ever used. Don't miss it much now that I've moved on.
