hi drew no clue to what is happening. would call my sales rep and let you know. meanwhile all those who own 2687DDU, could you post your reviews and experiences, so that we know we are in for. if this model has some known problems, they we might cancel this order and order some other T42/T43 instead.

the model has not been discontinued. I have just checked with the sales rep. Since more than 200 2687DDU's(including mine) are on backlog ibm is no longer taking orders for this model. They have rejected huge shipment of hard disks and it is very likely most of the orders including other models would be delayed by anything between 2-3 weeks. i had ordered mine on 1 july, was hoping to get it before end of july, but now i have no clue as to when i would be getting it. lenovo does needs to starghten up things, there is no laptop in this world which would take 1 and a half months to assemble. anyone else has any info about this

Yes ... 2687DDU is awesome! until the motherboard broke ...

can this be considered a Lemon PC?

here's what happened

after the 38th day my T43 had blue screen then lost video ... so i called IBM ... they gave me a local authorized support ... APEX computer in Cerritos CA .. they replaced the motherboard and then when i tried to restore to factory default .... AccessIBM cannot update because the machine type is invalid ... on top of that APEX did not put the back the casing right, screws were loose ... there is something buldging at the top the on/off switch ...

is lenovo using low class parts(motherboard dead in less than 2 months)?
And why are they trusting poor authorized service centers? ...

i called customer service then they told me that i should have sent it to the IBM depot where technicians are employed by IBM, the tech support said APEX should have sent it back for a replacement instead of changing the motherboard ... ( are they blaming me for agreeing to go to an authorized service center? )

So they recommended that i mail it to the IBM depot to have it fix so i won't be able to work with my laptop for 2 weeks.

I bought a thinkpad because they are known for their reliability. I guess I was wrong ...

I hope you guys wont have the same frustrating experience that i had ...

those "impossible" deals are, i was told last month, going to be phased out..
this might be part of that..

Jeesh I am assuming the answer to my question is yes. Now the other 60 gig model is gone from the visa website also.

Actually, you can order any model in the tabook. Most of the time, Lenovo will remove the model from listing if the back order is 3 weeks or more. If you are willing to wait, call in, and order it.

I got one, have been using it about three months, love it, no problems.

But the fan noise sucks.

A Guy who sits accross from me in class has a T42 and I've never heard a peep from it. Mine would be too loud in class, especially on start-up.

I've gotten used to the sound somewhat, if I could do it over I'd get a T42.

I think the fan noise is really the only difference in models given what I use the machine for.

Yes,

I agree with the last poster. I have the 2687-DDU and it is fine, but the fan noise can be annoying. I have found though that using CHC to undervolt, keeps the machine pretty quiet. I am happy with the machine because of CHC.

I would recommend that anyone not willing to use CHC, avoid the T43 and opt for the T42 instead. What use is a faster processor if a loud fan distracts and slows the user down??

got a mail from lenove. was hoping by some stroke of luck my 2687DDU would ship out by 25 july, but cam to know they would they now HOPE to have it shipped by first week of august. so another 3 weeks before i get the machine(BTW i ordered it on 1 july). All the people have mentioned about the fan noise. i think i would be able to live with that, my only apprehension is with regard to heating. i need this for programming, and my last notebook(dell latitude D600) used to literally burn my plams within an hour of running. i just hope it doesnt have that problem.Since everbody just talks about the fan problem, I guess i need not be too worried about the heat problem. If anyone can post something on that, it would be great. thanks

Heat is not a problem. The notebook runs very cool.

Wow, that really sucks, looks like they removed alot of the DVDR models and 60GB (5400) from the Visa lineup. Looks like I got one just in time, a 2687-D3U :) I think Bill is right, too many people catching on to the super deals!
