T42 fan

#1 Post by hixs » Tue Sep 06, 2022 6:14 pm

Need help Identifying fan wires on t42 fan to test the fan. 1) red----- 2) blue---- 3)orange--normally red would be pos+ while black is neg- I'm guessing orange is the signal wire?? I don't want to cook it if it's good. If it is there's other issues I need to look into. I've tried online but all I can find is how to replace it.

Get a multimeter and place the leads on the MoBo. Or just replace it.

I've replaced the fan before -- it's not worth it. Replace it + heat sink -- much easier.

Pretty sure from when I tested them it's red and blue and then the fan will spin at full blast.
If the fan feels noticibly jammed you can carefully pry open the housing, pull the fan blades directly off and then lubricate the fan.
If the fan spins freely when you touch it but still won't spin on the laptop and gives you a fan error, and testing it directly with red and blue doesn't spin either, you gotta replace it.
