Another new T43 owner with questions
I just purchased (and recieved) a T43 laptop on Ebay. Its technically used, but the guy didn't even have if for more then a day before it went up for auction. I have all the original parts, manuals, and even the box. The sticker on the box has two numbers and I know one of them has to be the model number of my laptop: Machine Type, which is also listed as part number, (2687-D3U) and Serial Number (L3F4262). I would think the first number would be my T43's model number, but is the model number just the first part (2687) or is the whole number the model number?
Also, what's the difference between the T43, T43s, and T43p? Are they all the same laptop just with different options or are they really different versions? And how do I know which mine actually is?
The specs are:
CPU speed: 1.86GHz
LCD: SXGA+ (1400x1050)
Memory: 1.5gb (512mb from factory; previous owner added 1GB Kingston ValueRam) 533MHz DDR2
60GB hard drive
DVD+-RW
Fingerprint reader
9-cell battery
And possible 3-year warranty*
He got the 3-year warranty, and using IBM/Lenovo's website, the warranty still has 3 years. However I'm wondering if it's transferable and do I need an actual receipt from an authorized dealer? The guy claims he never got a chance to register it electronically. I'm pretty good at fixing computers so this was never a critical thing. Another question I have is about the fingerprint reader: can it be used as a password manager for websites? And does anyone have a link to a manual of shorts that explain what all the blue iconed keys mean. So far I know that pressing the blue Fn key and Page up toggles the little light. And I'm sure I don't have to explain how weak & cryptic the included Service Guide is.
And does anyone know how to highlight test using the stick or pad?
PS:
I paid a total of $1766.00 or this machine. I've already stressed tested it and its solid as a rock. Everthing about it is in perfect condition, not a single scratch or dead pixel.

Thats a pretty good deal. I paid $1850 for the same configuration from IBM, but I got a free 6 cell battery. I searched your serial number, your laptop includes the famed NMB keyboard and the slightly brighter Hydis screen, so lucky you. I don't know how the warranty transfer works, but you would be a fool to think you can fix it! Yes, some parts or user serviceable, like the memory, mini-pci communication card, keyboard, but what it your screen goes? Or the mobo? or the gpu which is soldered on the mobo? You really want to have that warranty. There is no T43s, people just use the s for plural, like "Are the lenovo T43s any worse?" The T43p includes a 7200rpm HD and a 128mb GPU for graphic designers, other than that- same platform. also, use this link:
