Does your T4x pause for awhile after going into the desktop

#1 Post by Chatbox » Thu Jul 21, 2005 9:54 am

I find that everytime after a fresh recovery (to factory state), and having installed some software like office, diskeeper...etc At some point in time, the boot up performance will just drop like a rock. The major slow down is when logged onto the desktop, there's a 20 seconds or so pause before all the services and icons can be loaded.

Things I've done:
Ran diskeeper.
Ran Bootvis.
Ran msconfig, removed some crap.
Using static IP.
Having 2GB ram in my T41p.

I'm not sure what's stopping me.

Yes...auto login and virus scanner.

Tried NAV, McAfee, Avast...all the same results with the pause...not sure why that is.

Network issues?

#4 Post by boofoo » Thu Jul 21, 2005 10:03 pm

I've had similar problems in the past, and they've always turned out to be tied to network issues:

- Your system may be waiting for DHCP or other network setup info, and not moving onto other tasks until it has it

- There can also be a conflict between IBM Access connections and the Wireless Zero Configuration service. If I recall, they interact differently in differently in different environments, and WZC should be OFF with Win XP SP1 and ON with SP2 (don't know about other OSes).

The former slowed down startup on my previous computer, the latter on my current Thinkpad. So you might want to fiddle with network and/or wireless settings (the wireless setting can matter even if you're on a wired connection).
