Won't let me access BIOS

Please forgive me for not doing a search, frankly - today I don't have the time and I usually do searches. If someone can help Id appreciate it. After booting, Im come to the IBM screen where it says To interupt normal startup.. and I hit the blue Access IBM, only it takes me to the IBM Rescue and Recovery, which is what I do NOT want. I reboot, hit F8 and it takes me to options such as Safe Mode, again what I do NOT want. What am I missing here? :?:

press F1 on bootup to access the BIOS.

Thanks - that's weird because on my other thinkpad I press the blue button to get into BIOS - doesn't even take me to Rescue and Recovery.
