T43p WiFi performance

Have never been able to establish a WIFi connection with Win XP showing 2 pegs on the signal strength. Is there any settings I can change to enhance wireless performance over long distances?

Neither could I. It seems to be a windows problem. Windows is showing 2 bars even when the signal strength is about 0... I've never seen the windows wifi utility showing anything else than 2 or 5 bars.
