Memory Type and Maximum Memory on T30?

#1 Post by The Doctor » Thu Jul 21, 2005 7:53 pm

Hi, this is my first post, but I have been viewing this forum for some time now. I have a T30 which is just back from IBM for warranty memory slot# 2 repair, in other words a new system board. Anyway, I want to add some memory, and I'm not sure how much this computer can actually use.

Yes, I know IBM's official position on the subject. It should except two sticks of 512 megs a piece, but I have seen posts in the past or something pads will accept larger memory modules then what of IBM claims that will. Does anybody here know if a T30 will except a 1 Gig sticks along with a 512? how about 2 1 Gig sticks? Finally, I believe the recommended memory type is PC 2100, but I see most PC 2700 is listed as being backwards compatible. One of the modules will be the original PC 2100, is there any reason I should prefer the new one to be PC 2100 rather than 2700? I only ask this last question because the PC 2700 would seem more likely to be able to be used in a future notebook.

You folks have been very helpful in the past with information, I've never even had to post to find out what I needed to know. I especially like the advice from somebody on modifying the face plate on an NEC DVD burner to go in this T30, it saved me some money and it's a nicer burner than the original IBM unit :-) I thank you in advance for any help you can give me here.

Thank you
Ed
