T43 Flex Display MAX Brightness Dimmer than average - Why?

#1 Post by Goin'Mobile » Fri Jul 22, 2005 5:56 pm

I would like some thoughts from other TP users especially the long time users. When set to max brightness on AC power, why is the max brightness level of the T43 series Flexviews screens dimmer than other brand's LCD matte finish screens of the same size? I have compared brightness between the IBM T series and Dell D600, 610, Acer, Winbook, Toshiba, etc. Other vendors basic LCD w a matte finish (non-Tru/X Brite) is brighter than the 200 nit Flexview 15" Even after adjusting brightness on the Video Card settings on the T series it still is not as bright. Does IBM use a lower wattage LCD backlight? Does anyone know? I would like the notebook I purchase to have a bright matte finish LCD. IMO, Tru/XBright screens aren't as sharp as matte screens and cause eye strain after long periods of use. I hate Dells, but the brightest screen I found was on a D600 Latitude.
Thanks in advance everyone!

I find that the max brightness on my 15" flexview is quite bright. Much brighter than my old Dell 15" UXGA is. And certainly I can't consider it dim by any stretch.
X31, T43p (on sale soon I think :( ), T400
