IBM T42 LCD Panel

#1 Post by Vijay Kulkarni » Mon Jul 25, 2005 1:48 am

Recently, when I was traveling to Chennai I was carrying my Notebook in the carry bag and kept the same in overhead locker. However, after reaching Chennai in my office, I found that two lines are coming in LCD screen. I am able to work with the machine but these lines are disturbing. There is definitely some problem in display panel nut nothing can be sensed on touching it. However, even after shutting down, lines are visible. Probably layer between LCD and top glass has developed crack. When I contacted IBM service centre, I was told LCD panel needs replacement and would cost almost 25 % of thinkpad cost.

Does complete panel require replacement or is there any layer between LCD and top glass that needs replacement?

It sounds to me like you need to replace the LCD. I would try and find a used one on e-bay. If you get the whole top lid, it's easier to replace. Do a search on e-bay, and with Google just using the FRU number for the LCD. You can get this information by pressing the blue Access IBM button > Get Help & Support > Find support information > Warranty and parts information.
