You know, in Taiwan, there's no wait for thinkpads. You just go to a store and tell them the model you want. They have EVERY single model.

Last summer, I managed to "haggle" with them until they lowered the price of my X40 to $1550 CDN with free wireless mouse, two IBM cases, and a nice mug  . Even better, I was able to exchange it any time within 14 days for a new model, or replace it if it was defective. I found a dead pixel on the very side of the screen and exchanged it for a new one. The new X40 had a creaky keyboard, so I exchanged it yet again. Essentially, there is a ZERO dead pixel policy and free replacement if you find any defect. It's just like buying directly from IBM except with no wait. I had to find recovery CD's for the english os though, which espresso kindly sent to me.

I wonder why there's such a wait in the US and Canada..

P.S. There's no tax when you buy a thinkpad in Taiwan!

because everytime you go and buy one, you have it for two days, think it said something about your mother when you werent looking, and swap it for a new one  . lenovo doesnt resend it out to someone else because they think its borked, and you get to play with thinkpads all day long. dam you!!!!!

:P

edit: i want my thinkpad :(

I just called Lenovo to get an estimated ship time for 2668G1U and was told it's 4-6 weeks.

Oh boy.

So, Chordate, did I miss the date your ordered? How long did you wait in the post-order, pre-ship state?

regards
ash

Shipped from where? IBM always says Next Day PM. Expect at least a day in customs (maybe 2 or 3 as they seem to be holding them for observation more) and then you'll get it the following day after customs release.

I ordered a 2668G5U (T43P) on Monday July 18 and received it this morning. It left Hong Kong on the 22nd. When I ordered, it showed an estimated shipping date of Sep. 07.

I ordered on June 27th... they said there was an 8 week delay, but I guess it came earlier.
